Apple has been rumored to be looking at an iPhone with a bigger display but now WSJ is reporting that the plans could include not just a bigger sized iPhone but also a much bigger iPad. According to the report, the company’s Asian suppliers have revealed that Apple has asked them for display designs beyond 4-inches for the iPhone and one for the iPad with a display slightly smaller than 13-inches.
While Apple is testing the prototypes of the aforementioned displays for iPhone and iPad, the suppliers are still unsure if any of these designs will ever be introduced in the market. Apple keeps looking at various possibilities but that does not necessarily have to translate into a commercial product.
Apart from this, the report also suggests that Apple and its component suppliers will be ramping up production of a new iPad later this month, which is expected to be sized similar to the existing 9.7-inch model of iPad. This new variant will feature the same display resolution as the current generation model but will replace the traditional glass display with a thin film with touch sensors. Earlier leaked photos suggest that the new iPad with Retina Display will have a thinner footprint and will replicate the iPad mini’s design language. While Apple is testing the prototypes of the aforementioned displays for iPhone and iPad, the suppliers are still unsure if any of these designs will ever be introduced in the market.
