Facebook on feature phones crosses 100 million users worldwide

Facebook, on Sunday, revealed that its Facebook for Every Phone app is being used by around 100 million people across the world on more than 3,000 different kinds of feature phones.

What this number essentially means is that of the more than 751 million users accessing Facebook from their phones every month, over 100 million are feature phone users. The Java app, developed by Snaptu that Facebook acquired in 2011, is targeted at feature phone users in developing countries. This app offers core functionalities like News Feed, Messenger and Photos, but is optimized for the small displays on feature phones and also for low data consumption.

In countries like India, besides offering the Facebook app on feature phones, the company has also partnered with local carriers to offer the app free or at discounted rates. As a limited offer, Facebook had also offered free talk time to first time users in India.
