Reliance Jio Infocomm has reportedly started work on the 4G network service roll out in Assam and other Northeast states. According to a TOI report, the company is planning to invest in Rs 600 to Rs 700 crores in the first phase of the project and will later scale up the investment with the project development.
The report mentions that a team of Reliance Jio’s top executives including Tarun Jhunjhunwala, business head and state mentor (east) have talked to Tarun Gogoi, Assam’s chief minister about their plans to roll out 4G in the state. Mukesh Ambani is believed to soon visit the state to take the project forward.
The report has quoted Gogoi confirming that, “Ambani (Mukesh Ambani) has informed me about his company’s plan to come here in big way and roll out 4G services.”The report mentions that a team of Reliance Jio’s top executives including Tarun Jhunjhunwala, business head and state mentor (east) have talked to Tarun Gogoi, Assam’s chief minister about their plans to roll out 4G in the state. The company is reported to have already set up an office in Guwahati and has hired around 100 engineers to work on the 4G plan. Moreover, the company has started laying optical fiber network across Assam. Reportedly, “Around 800 mobile towers will be installed across Assam alone.” And the whole process of setting up towers is expected to get over by the year end or early next year. It is believed that the network infrastructure will be developed quickly so that the company is ready for 4G roll out “by April next year.”
Reliance Jio is betting big on 4G and has earlier inked deals with RCom over infrastructure and other equipment sharing. The company in fact has recently been permitted for testing the voice calling over 4G networks for another six months, while the deadline for the same was slated to expire this month.
