Yahoo acquires popular fantasy sports app maker Bignoggins

Yahoo’s CEO Marissa Mayer carries on with her acquisition spree and has now acquired popular fantasy-sports app maker, Bignoggins. Details on the deal are scarce at best, with the only thing known at the moment is that app founder Jerry Shen will immediately join Yahoo’s own Fantasy app team.
“After many years as a free agent, I’d like to officially announce that Yahoo has picked me up off waivers,” Shen said in a blog post. “I’m excited to join a team of all-stars to take fantasy sports to the next level. I’ve been playing Yahoo Fantasy since high school and have wanted to work here since college, so this is really a dream come true for me.”
Shen, 30, had a corporate job before quitting to start his own company called Bignoggins and developed some of the most popular fantasy sports apps like Fantasy Monster and Draft Monster. Neither of the companies revealed how much the deal was worth.
Yahoo has since removed Bignoggins’ apps from the App Store and the Google Play Store. It is also said that Shen’s experience will give a huge boost to Yahoo’s own fantasy app, which has seen increased competition from the likes of ESPN, CBS and the NFL among others.
Yahoo has been recently busy acquiring companies like Tumblr, Astrid, Snip. It and Summly, and GhostBird and Rondee more recently, as it continues to revamp its mobile platform and change the perception that the company isn’t contemporary.
