A couple of days back, Asus accidently posted a promo video of the revamped FonePad 7 ahead of an official unveiling. Last evening, the Taiwanese company announced the Android tablet at the ongoing IFA conference in Berlin.
As we’ve previously reported, this voice calling tablet is an updated version of the FonePad 7, which made its debut barely six months back at the MWC in Barcelona. The tablet remains much the same and the only thing differentiating the two is the slightly improved specs on the latest one.
The new Asus FonePad 7 flaunts a 7-inch HD IPS (1280×800 pixels) display and is powered by a dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 processor, which replaces the 1.2GHz Intel Lexington on its predecessor. Other features included are 1GB of RAM, 5-megapixel rear camera (the older generation had a 3-megapixel camera), 1.2-megapixel secondary camera on the front, 8/16/32GB of internal storage that can be expanded using a microSD card and a 3,950mAh battery, which the company claims is good enough for 28 hours of talktime and 35 days on standby mode.
Talking of connectivity options, the new tab now supports HSPA+ 3G for connecting to the Web at up to 42Mbps speeds in addition to the usual voice calling functionality, 3G support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On the software front, the tab runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and comes pre-loaded with extra features such as the Floating App functionality that allows up to six apps to be simultaneously opened on the same screen.
There’s currently no word on the pricing or availability of the tablet in India.
