After Amazon, Flipkart offers next-day shipping for Rs 90 in select cities

Flipkart today announced its own next-day shipping guarantee, a week after rival Amazon announced it for select cities in India. The Indian online retail giant will let users in Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad to get guaranteed deliveries the next day if they pay an additional shipping charge of Rs 90. Amazon charges Rs 99 for the same service for products that are fulfilled by Amazon.
In Flipkart’s case, buyers will have to place their orders before 6PM to get the goods delivered the next day. We have had a lot of customers requesting urgent deliveries, for reasons ranging from occasion-led gifts to pre-travel shopping. But given the large volumes that we handle it wasn’t feasible to address them on a case-to-case basis,” said Ravi Vora, senior vice president, Flipkart.com. “We have now built the capability into our supply-chain and can now offer it as a guaranteed feature. This value-added service is available to consumers who need it – making online shopping a viable option even for last-minute purchases. We hope this will further accelerate the adoption of e-commerce in the country.”
