As expected, Google has announced the next generation of the Nexus 7 tablet. It runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and it sports a newer slimmer design, and a 1080p display. Like before the tablet has been made by Asus.
The new Nexus 7 is 2mm thinner and is 50 grams lighter than its predecessor. This means that the new Nexus 7 measures in at 8.5mm and weighs 290 grams. The display also gets a major resolution upgrade and now it sports a display with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels and has a pixel density of 323 pixels per inch.
As previous rumors have suggested, the tablet is powered by a 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor, which works in concert with 2GB of RAM. It also has the Adreno 320 GPU and it is available in 16GB and 32GB variants. The tablet also features dual stereo speakers like the Kindle Fire HD. Unlike the previous Nexus 7, it also packs in a 5-megapixel rear camera, HDMI output and also has NFC capabilities baked-in. On the front it has a 1.2-megapixel camera. Google claims that it can deliver 9 hours of HD video playback and 10 hours of web browsing. The battery on the new Nexus 7 will also support wireless charging.
