Skype has announced its Android app has been installed on over 100 million devices and to celebrate this milestone, it has launched a major design and UI update to its app for Android to deliver a common set of experiences across multiple platforms and devices. The update includes a conversation-focused interface, improved quality and performance, and will work on devices running Android Ice Cream Sandwich too.
To bring ubiquity across platforms, the new design for the Android app is highly inspired by that of the Windows Phone 8 app launched last year.
The new Android app thus offers a Metro-like UI which includes a rather clean listing of conversations and makes the interactions easier with single tap oriented navigation. The app has been rebuilt from the ground up to be faster, and be more reliable. It has also worked on offering better stability, performance, and loading time.
The company has mentioned that it will bring more updates in the coming months to make Skype for Android even more reliable, reachable, and mobile-friendly. It has recently updated app for iOS platform a few days after taking the video calling feature out of its Beta phase on various platforms.
