Zomato launches in new international cities, adds fake review detection tools

Zomato today announced it is launching its services in five cities across three countries – South Africa (Cape Town), the United Kingdom (Manchester, Birmingham), and New Zealand (Auckland, Wellington) – and also added Guwahati to its list of Indian cities. The restaurant recommendation service is now available across 27 cities in eight countries. Apart from the addition of new cities, Zomato has also updated its website bringing much-needed tools to detect fake reviews.

The biggest addition to the service is an advanced new review spam detection system and approved reviewers. This means new reviewers on Zomato will have to at least publish 10 reviews and get their profiles approved from Zomato moderators before their reviews become publicly visible.
Users will be able to act as moderators and super foodies and connoisseurs will be able to report a review as a fake. Zomato is also enabling public comments on reviews, which will allow users to comment and ask follow-up questions on reviews.

A new messaging feature will allow users to get in touch with each other and a new reformatted site search feature will deliver more relevant results and will club fast food chains in one result. The interface of the site has also been redesigned. Zomato now also offers users to create personalized ratings and they can also opt in to use other social networks to build their own personalized version of Zomato.

Users will also be able to upload pictures to restaurants as a new form of user generated content.
