Google Now could get a hyper-local news card

Google Now on Android or iOS serves up a lot of information to a user tailored to his or her likes. Navigation, traffic, flight status and weather are only some of the information it offers you on your fingertips. Now it seems Google is readying another card that will offer local news based on one’s location, Quartz reports.

Google Now already offers news stories based on a user’s location and interests, but this new feature will go even deeper and serve news based on one’s locality, time of day and interests. It will also serve a dose neighborhood-related stories and news and updates about local businesses. The report quotes Johanna Wright, the vice president of search and assist at Google, who describes this card as “hyper-local”.

For now this card is being tested internally at Google and there is no word on when or if this feature would be available to the public.
