Last week Google had announced it will be releasing a ‘find my iPhone’ like service for Android devices. The service, Android Device Manager, is now live. Android smartphone users can go here to check the whereabouts of their phones. Users can also make their phones ring in case they misplace them or even wipe the device clean in case it gets stolen or lost.
The good thing about the service is it does not need any dedicated app to be installed on the device. Users can click on the Google Settings icon on their phone and go to Android Device Manager option and enable it, in order to enable the remote wiping function. The ability to track the location of the phone is enabled if you have agreed to give access location to Google (Settings > Location > Access Location) and making it ring is enabled by default.
This is a good step from Google and all we need now is a dedicated Google app or service that takes complete backup of a device, something like iTunes does for iOS devices.
