It’s been a year since Microsoft last gave its Bing maps a major update. Now, the Redmond-based company has given its native mapping app another major update, which adds 13 million square kilometers (or 5 million square miles) of aerial imagery.
The update amounts to 316TB of aircraft and satellite imagery from around the world being added to the service. In the image above, each yellow dot represents the new imagery that was added. In a blog, Microsoft highlights Ísafjarðarbær, Iceland, Maritimes Alps, France, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and Hugh Town, Scilly Isles, England, to have been benefited by the new update. Back in June last year, Microsoft had added about 270TB worth of imagery to Bing including places like Rome, Milan, Stravanger, and Kaanapali. You can head over to Bing.com to see these new images.
The Bing Maps is also likely to benefit from the Microsoft-Nokia deal, which gives the Redmond-based company access and license to use Nokia’s HERE Maps.
