Next-gen Snapdragon APQ8084 clocked at 2.5GHz with Adreno 420 GPU spotted on AnTuTu

Qualcomm’s powerful Snapdragon 800 processor has only just started arriving on premium flagship devices, but the ARM chip manufacturer seems to have already readied its successor. German weblog MobileGeeks has spotted a new Qualcomm Snapdragon chip on AnTuTu with model number APQ8084.

From the screenshot, the new Snapdragon SoC seems like an incremental upgrade from the Snapdragon 800. Many things like resolutions and number of cores supported remain the same, but it is the clock speed and the GPU where we see the upgrades. Snapdragon 800 supports clock speeds up to 2.3GHz and supports Adreno 330 GPU. This forthcoming chipset seems to support clock speeds up to 2.5GHz and Adreno 420 on the graphics side.

This incremental upgrade should ensure a decent bump in performance. There’s no word on when this chipset will be unveiled, but if we were to bet, we will put our money on CES or the Mobile World Congress early next year.
