Nokia’s Espoo HQ to become Microsoft’s office after acquisition

In what might be considered to the final slap of humiliation by local Finns, Microsoft will reportedly take over Nokia’s iconic Espoo headquarters, Nokia House, once it completes the acquisition of Nokia’s devices and services business. Finland’s Taloussanomat is reporting that current Nokians who will be transferred to Microsoft will continue to work out of this office while those who remain with Nokia will be transferred to a nearby office in Karaportti, which the company owns.
Last December the company sold Nokia House for Euro 170 million and leased it back in a move to cut back on expenses. Nokia House had been Nokia’s headquarters since 1997. Microsoft is acquiring Nokia’s devices and services business for $7.2 billion and the deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2014.

Nokia India today appealed to the Delhi High Court to unfreeze its Chennai manufacturing facility so it can be transferred to Microsoft. The Chennai factory is one of the largest that Nokia owns and also exports phones apart from satiating local demand.
