RIP Winamp: AOL to shutdown Winamp music player on December 20 after 15 years

“Winamp, it really kicks the llama’s a**!” Every music lover in the 90’s remembers this line, having listened to it after downloading and firing up the Winamp music player for the first time. AOL has now announced that it will be shutting down the music player on December 20.
AOL bought Winamp from developers Nullsoft in June 1999 for around $80 million and after a boom in the 90’s when it was the preferred music player, it has seen a decline of sorts. The emergence of alternatives like iTunes hasn’t helped the company either.
