BlackBerry PlayBook will not be updated to BB10

After announcing its results for Q2, BlackBerry revealed that it will not be updating the PlayBook tablet to BlackBerry OS 10 (BB10). Speaking at the investor call, CEO Thorstein Heins revealed that they will not be updating the tablet to BB10.
Previously in January, BlackBerry had promised its customers that the tablet would be updated. Now, Heins claims that they were not able to get the performance to a satisfactory level and that’s why it would not get the update. He went on to say now the company would focus on its core product line.
If one remembers correctly, only reccently Heins was quoted cribbing about the tablet market and went on to say that the tablet market would be over in the next five years. Clearly, it appears he does not think much of the tablet market. Of course, there is no way to know weather the company was not able to get the user experience up to scratch with the PlayBook running BB10, or it was a purely business decision taken by Heins.
In addition to this, the company revealed that of the 6.8 million BlackBerry smartphones it shipped in the second quarter 40 percent of the devices were running BB10.
