Microsoft updates Outlook.com Android app with server-side search and colored interface

Starting from today, Microsoft is rolling out a significant update to the Android app for Outlook.com. The Outlook app for Android now gets several new features including server-side search, support for downloading old mails, vacation replies, aliases, new backdrop colors and several other improvements.

Microsoft claims that out of the 400 million Outlook.com users, 68 percent access it via mobile devices. And in order to make their app more competent, the company has worked on these features and improvements on the basis of user feedback and feature requests received for this app.

Talking of the features, the app can now sync and download all the old messages. It also integrates server-side search to allow users to look for a particular mail beyond the mails on the phone by opting for a new option to search Outlook.com to find a message.

Also, just like Yahoo Mail service, Microsoft has also made the Outlook.com app more colorful. The app now sheds the monotonous color regime to offer 11 colors to a user to personalize their mailbox. Those on vacations can set a customized vacation reply directly from the app, as well as can choose the people who should receive the message. Another new feature addition is the support for aliases on the app.
