LG is planning to soon join the likes of HTC and Samsung amongst others by announcing a Microsoft’s Windows Phone operating system smartphone, which according to a report by the LightReadingIndia is under development in their R&D centre. However, there is no information on the launch of the Windows Phone 8 smartphone, as the company is assessing the market opportunity attached to it and thus has not yet decided on its release.
On the sidelines of the LG Optimus G Pro launch, Kwon Soon, LG India’s managing director has reportedly revealed LG’s plans regarding a Windows Phone 8 based smartphone and said that, ‘At home (South Korea), we are actually working on our Windows Phone 8 OS powered smartphone.’ Kwon believes that ‘Microsoft is pumping efforts’ in the Windows platform, which will eventually help ‘Windows pick up going ahead.’
However, Kwon also cleared that despite debuting with Microsoft Windows Phone 8 smartphone, the company will continue its focus on the Google’s Android System, as ‘Android is the major platform globally, given its acceptance and penetration.’
So far, Nokia has an exclusive partnership with Microsoft and backs Windows Phone platform in all its smartphones. As far as the other brands go, HTC had launched 8X and 8S on the Windows Phone platform last year, and Samsung also offers Windows Phone smartphones under its ATIV portfolio. Besides this, Chinese smartphone vendors including Huawei and ZTE also have their Windows Phone offerings available globally.
Previously, LG has also launched Windows Phone based smartphones, but in the last year we have seen no new Windows Phone based smartphone by the South Korean company.
