Moto G launched, is waterproof outside and inside, coming worldwide for $179

Motorola has finally unveiled the Moto G today at an event in Sao Paula. Motorola CEO, Dennis Woodside claims that the Moto G provides premium experience with today’s technology at a third of the price of current phones that provide the same experience. The design principles are same as the Moto X with edge-to-edge display, a curved back, Gorilla Glass and nano coating inside and outside to protect it from water splashes. The device is available from today in select markets and will be launched in India in early-January.

The Moto G has a 4.5-inch 720p display with 329ppi. It runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, 1GB RAM to provide what Motorola claims is an all-day battery life and 33 percent more talk time than the iPhone 5S on 3G networks. It also has a removable back with interchangable shells. Motorola will also make flip covers and grips.

On the photography front, the device features a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3-megapixel front camera. Connectivity options include 3G support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS and dual-SIM card slot (select countries).

The Moto G runs on Android 4.3 out of the box and Motorola has promised that the device will get Android 4.4 KitKat by January 2014. Users will also get 65GB of Google Drive. In terms of pricing, the 8GB unlocked Moto G would be available for $179 (Rs 11,300 approximately) and $199 (Rs 12,500 approximately) for the 16GB in the US. Motorola will be launching it with its carrier partners worldwide.
