Reliance Jio gets DoT’s approval to provide MNP service

Reliance Jio Infocomm has got the DoT’s nod for Location Routing Numbers (LRN) service which will allow the operator to provide easy Mobile Number Portability service to those who wish to switch to its network, Telecom Talk reports.
Reliance Jio holds 4G spectrum in 22 telecom circles pan India and is expected to soon launch its voice calling facilities over 4G LTE and Broadband services on the network. With the allocation of LRN, any GSM or CDMA user on other 2G or 3G networks will be able to port to Reliance Jio’s 4G LTE network, while also retaining their mobile number.
The company had earlier partnered with Reliance Communication for sharing infrastructure and also with Samsung to providing low-budget 4G enabled smartphones.

So far, Airtel is the only operator to provide 4G service in Kolkata, Chandigarh, Bangalore and Pune, however only via dongles and modem. It is working on soon launching voice services over 4G in Bangalore by the end of this year.
